The Nigerian music industry gets bigger by the day and while the
music stars get all the credit, a lot of praise should also be
attributed to the people behind the production board.
Here’s a brief highlight on five of the hottest music producers in Nigeria right now…
Sarz - This young producer associated with eLDee‘s
Trybe Records imprint bullied the game in 2012 with his infectious pop
production. After producing a batch of the hit singles on EME’s
compilation album, Sarz isn’t stopping. His first single ‘Samba‘ featuring Wizkid
is arguably the hottest tune around now. For now Sarz still has an iron
grip on the production game in Nigeria. He is the Wizkid of production.
No?
Maleek Berry - All the way from London Maleek Berry has made a name for himself in Nigeria’s music scene. His first success was on Sinzu’s 2011 hit ‘Carolina’. He duplicated his magic on Davido‘s debut album O.B.O. Maleek Berry’s star has continued to rise with production for the likes of Wande Coal and Wizkid.
His first single ‘Back To The Matter‘ featuring Wizkid is a straight up
heavy track while his production on Wande’s new single is smooth and
superb.
Spellz - Spellz is so anonymous that people don’t know he is responsible for a lot of hits we groove to. The young man produced Tiwa Savage‘s ‘Folarin’ and Banky W‘s
‘Good Loving‘. His production style is featured a lot on Banky W’s new
album. As a result of his growing prominence he is now being managed by
Tiwa Savage’s manager Tee Billz.
Chopstix - This J. Town producer has risen from being GRIP Boiz‘ sole producer to Ice Prince’s
sound main crafter. He laced the beats for Ice Prince’s new singles
‘Aboki’ and ‘More’- which are already hits. He showed he was no
one-trick pony on his production on ‘Truth‘. His work for the GRIP Boyz
and Reminisce has many touting Chopstix to be the hottest producer by
the time 2013 calls it a day.
Don Jazzy - Don Jazzy hasn’t had too many production as of late but his work on D’Prince‘s
Frenzy is still bumping in clubs here and abroad. Most importantly he
crafted one of the hottest songs of this year so far- ‘The Kick‘ by Wande Coal.
His production on Wande Coal’s comeback single is reminiscent of his
Mo’ Hits days when he was the country’s number one hit maker.
