Edo communities, oil firms in cordial relations

Benin City - Edo State Commissioner for Special Duties, Oil and Gas, Isimeme Iriogbe, has appealed to oil companies to work towards establishing peaceful working relations with their host communities.

This followed a meeting with the delegation of members of Urhonigbe Community in Orhionwon Local Government Area, and members of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation in Benin City.

The commissioner explained that Edo State was peaceful and devoid of youth restiveness compared to other states and therefore urged Pan Ocean not to take the youths of Urhonigbe Community for granted.

He urged Pan Ocean to ensure it lives up to its Corporate Social Responsibility to its host communities.

The commissioner also reminded the oil company not to cede the oil well heads in Edo State to neighbouring states.

The commissioner also advised Urhonigbe Community members to co-operate with the company in order to make the environment conducive for both parties.

Co-ordinator of Pan Ocean, Felix Uwhe said the company had been receiving the cooperation of the host community, a development which culminated in a memorandum of understanding between the two parties.

He said Pan Ocean had ensured that Urhonigbe community was not shortchanged.
